I study relationships between people and AI.
Hi, I'm James Brandt.
I am a recent graduate of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Master's program in the University of Minnesota's College of Design. I am currently a Design Strategist at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL).
My work in HCI/HAI asks how agents can be legible, stable, and genuinely helpful over time. Lately I've been comparing two paths to personalization, co-created avatars vs. adaptive linguistic style, and mapping the trade-off between moment-to-moment synchrony and long-term persona stability.
